We are at the fun stage now. Little Son has basically learned to play J. B. Accolay Violin Concerto in A Minor. It is a magnificent concerto, and a nice "bridge" piece to the world of romantic music for students.

As of now, the pressure is not on yet, as the competitions will not begin until February. Little Son has memorized the piece, and he is able to play the notes, although not at full tempo (certainly) and not with all the details perfected. We love Accolay right now. Two months from now, however, things will be a little more intense.

Someone was kind enough to point out to me that there is a nice clip on Youtube of Itzhak Perlman performing Accolay, and here it is, so my faithful readers can hear what a fantastic piece of music Little Son is learning:

Jon my rabbit catcher and cello player can't believe Little son is playing this piece. That is wonderful! Our recital is the 7th of Dec so we are practicing intensely.
I saw your comment, that is what is amazing about Jon catching these rabbits we live on open 5 acres. And yesterday he was mowing on the tracker when he found it, just blows my mind.

That's so true - these pieces go through several stages, especially leading up to a competition. After it's all over it's nice if you get to the 'I STILL like this piece and now I'm just enjoying playing it' stage. Well done to your son for getting to grips with such a 'real' piece.
Perlman is great to watch on YouTube - so involved with the pieces, and my daughter loves the way he raises his eyebrows.

Do you know the clip of Perlman and Zukerman playing the Handel-Halvorsen Passacaglia? (Have I mentioned this before?? we love this piece so much, including the banter between the two players before they go on stage:
