Okay, I have kept y’all in suspense long enough. Here is a rundown of what has been going on here at Breezy Point. Really exciting times.
First off, Sweet Girl has finished up Calvert’s Third Grade course. She has such a feeling of accomplishment. As has become a tradition here, we have displayed her artwork from Third Grade in our hallway.
The other thrilling thing about ending one grade is beginning a new grade. We have done this already. Sweet Girl is four lessons into Fourth Grade with Calvert. She got a big kick out of opening up her new Calvert box. We purchased these books back in the springtime when Calvert had a 30% off sale, but we kept the box sealed up until now. Have you ever seen a girl so excited about new books?
I truly had no idea that Math and Grammar books could be that exciting, but they are! I hope she maintains that level of enthusiasm for the entire year.
On the music front, Chips fulfilled his dream of being a concert soloist yesterday. He got to play Haydn’s Violin Concerto No.2 in G (1st mvt.) with the youth orchestra before an audience of hundreds. It was an exciting and memorable occasion for all of us. Here is the video of the performance:
In addition to this, Sweet Girl performed well with her orchestra as they played “Turkey in a Tux” and “Burst!”. Really neat music, and she enjoyed learning and playing it.
A few weeks ago, both children participated in their fall recital. Sweet Girl played a Seitz concerto (the first selection in Suzuki Book 4) which you can view here:
And, Chips played Paganini’s Cantabile which you can view here:
Chips is slated to play this same piece at church this coming Sunday, as the prelude for the evening service. Except there, he is required to wear a black suit!
Finally, on the camping front, we did some searching and shopping, research and web-surfing, and finally some traveling, to find ourselves an RV. A Motor Coach which is very used, but also very well cared for. We were astonished at how well cared for this coach has been. Anyway, we had to travel 2-1/2 hours on the highway to see it, and then return again on another day to purchase it. Self-Reliant Man once again proved his self-reliance as he bravely drove this coach back home over the freeways and turnpikes. He is braver than I. Here, again, are some photos. Camping will never again be the same for our family.
The owner of the coach (at the time) took us on a test drive several miles down a highway, and then required Self-Reliant Man to drive it back. Just like that. Said something like “you’ve got to do it soon enough, so it might as well be now”. Self-Reliant Man handled it like a champ. (Hmmm... can't quite see the beads of sweat on his temples in this photo.)
Here he is standing atop the roof to inspect its condition. All these pictures are taken the day we went to see it.
It sort of dwarfs the van, does it not?
Makes the children look quite small, too.
This coach is truly one of a kind. And Self-Reliant Man is quite fulfilled, because he has so much to learn and plenty of books to read to learn about it. How to work a compressed air system, an LP gas system, a diesel generator, a very large diesel engine, a 12VDC / 120/240 VAC electrical system, automatic leveling jacks, a sewer system (yippee!) and more, more, more. Self-Reliant Man will never be bored again. And perhaps our favorite feature will be the MUSICAL HORN that can play 99 familiar tunes. We told the kids we cannot try that feature out until New Year’s Eve when the neighbors are making noise, too.
So these are good and exciting days for us. Despite a very sad event of the past few months, we have many new reasons to be thankful this Thanksgiving Day.

So much to say so little time. LOL! Loved that she gets so excited about her new books. That's AWESOME!
Your son played BEAUTIFULLY!!! I was all into it. WOW!
And your "new" RV is super nice. Yes, he'll have a lot of learning to do if he doesn't know about that stuff already. It's not as simple as we think. LOL!
Have a lovely day and a very Happy Thanksgiving.
Kim
Happy Thanksgiving to you! Enjoy your new RV. It looks fabulous!!
My goodness, you have a house on wheels! I'd guess it's bigger than our little Scottish house!
Lovely music your children are making.
Congrats to everyone! The kids are playing beautifully. I especially love the RV! I love to travel and an RV like that is just dreamy!
The new RV is a wonderful way to travel! It's just beautiful. I'm so happy that you found it.
Congrats to your Princess for finishing 3rd grade. Fourth grade is a lot of fun, and I'm sure she will enjoy all of the reading books. And they are doing wonderfully on their violins. I am so pleased for you that November has been so good to you after a very unhappy September.
I loved reading your long update. It does sound like you have many things to be grateful for--starting with some pretty spectacular kidds!
